Check .lt domain

.lt secured with DNSSEC

Kaunas University of Technology has completed the project – DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) technology implementation in .lt domain.

DOMREG

Registrars registering and administering customers’ domain names with ending .lt can already start using digital signatures in order to avoid potential DNS security vulnerabilities – tampering of domain name resolution results.

Daiva Tamulionienė, the head of Kaunas University of Technology Internet Service Centre, says that this new technology might be particularly relevant to information systems, which uses .lt domains and require enhanced security, also to electronic banking or e-commerce portals. DNSSEC technology enables reliable authentication of responses to DNS queries, preventing them from tampering.

.lt domain name signing ceremony took place at Kaunas University of Technology Data Centre on 31 January 2013. During this event .lt domain name DNSSEC signatures were generated using up-to-date cryptographic hardware security module (HSM). This module used for protection of .lt domain DNSSEC signatures has certificate of FIPS 140-2 level 3 standard which guarantees protection of private security keys used for .lt domains signing.

On 20 February 2013 Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) set .lt domain digital signatures into root DNS servers, and DNSSEC technology in .lt domain begun to function.
