DOMREG seminar for the registrars in 2014

The seminar for the registrars organised by the Internet Service Centre DOMREG at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) took place on 6 June 2014. It included the presentation and discussion of the new edition of .LT procedural regulation.

One of the most relevant novelty presented at the seminar was a possibility of the long-term (up to 5 years) domain renewal. According to DOMREG representatives, such a possibility was necessary, because not all customers find it convenient to renew the validity term of their domain for one year for various reasons. There are many domains for the international businesses or various long-term projects that are registered for several years for the sake of convenience.

In case the domain’s validity term is not renewed, such a domain is put in “quarantine” and is stored for 30 days. If a customer fails to restore the domain name within this period, the domain is considered unregistered. The unregistered domain can be re-created by any registrant; therefore, if the registrant fails to renew the period and restore the domain from “quarantine”, there is a risk of losing it.
